Featured Stylist & Artist: ROBIN

Hello! What an interesting thing it is to have sit & write about yourself! Well to start off in introducing myself, I am the gal behind the emails, coordinating, social media & all the other ‘behind the scenes’ bits, while still pursuing my passion as a stylist & artist. As a born and raised YYC gal, I always had a creative soul growing up, & actually received my first mannequin head for my 9th birthday. That is where my love of styling started. (and yes I still have that mannequin head!) Fast forward to 2009 where I graduated from Purely Inspired Academy of Beauty completing my hair styling diploma & makeup artistry certificate (where the talented & amazing Heidi mentored me in the start of my makeup journey!). Shortly after, I had an opportunity to be a lead stylist at a salon/spa located at a stunning vineyard resort in beautiful Osoyoos, BC. That fueled my love for styling & makeup, specifically bridal beauty & photo shoots, which lead me to joining Avenue Beauty over 7 years ago.

One of my favorite things about doing hair & makeup is having the opportunity to meet so many incredible people, and to be able to share with them ways to enhance their natural beauty. I love that we can use our craft to showcase everybody’s unique features as opposed to trying to mask and change the way we look. I want to help empower ladies, & to feel confident as their most beautiful version of themselves. Wedding mornings hold a special place, as it is an absolute honor to be able to be a part of such an incredibly beautiful and important day in a couple’s lives. The energy, the love & happiness we witness on these days is like nothing else.

There is another side of the industry that I truly love– having the opportunity to be a part of a bigger local creative community. I am so grateful to be have been able to meet so many local, talented vendors over the years- whether it be through weddings, styled shoots, workshops or local events. Having that bond with others that have such a passion for what they do, and to be able to all come together to create incredible things is so amazing.

On my time off I love anything to do in the sunshine! I am a huge sun lover & when the opportunity arises that I can zip out of town, my top picks are always Palm Springs or the Okanagan. Since travelling is not always an option, I also love shopping at some local boutiques, consignment hunting with friends and being able to hang out with my quaint but fabulous family (who I am so lucky to have here in the city!) I also have to admit that I do have a slight addiction to reality tv - a girls gotta get in her fix of that wild Hollywood drama haha! My friends & family have been an amazing support system through out the years & I am so thankful that they continuously let me steal them away to be models when learning new styles & makeup techniques or when I need a live model for an event/workshop. In today’s world, there are so many incredible webinars & online courses accessible, which allows us to continue growing our skills as stylists & artists. I love to learn from others & practice new creative ways, so will always continue to utilize that option as much as possible on my time off.

I am so honored to be a part of this incredible team & to have the opportunity to work with & learn from these incredible women. Not only in the beauty department, but in life, they continue to inspire me & I am forever grateful. Being able to connect with the amazing people in the city & to be a part of creating some of life’s biggest memories, is beyond words for me and I look forward to each and every booking. I am excited to meet some new clients, connect back with past clients & to continue to be a part of this amazing community we have in this beautiful city!

Love Story: Kassandra + Justin

We were so honored to be apart of this beautiful, unique & intimate elopement that was featured recently on Confetti Wedding Magazine Blog. The couple’s ceremony was a beautiful escape back to where they first met, surrounded by the stunning Rocky Mountains. Kassandra’s style was very soft & romantic, so we tucked her hair into a textured, low bun & adorned it with a gorgeous gold hair piece from Joanna Bisley Designs, To compliment her soft, feminine dress, we kept her makeup light & polished with shades of pink & champagne.

Once the couple said “I DO’, they headed back into the city to celebrate with their friends & family at a quaint reception in their downtown home. We dialed up the glam factor for Kassandra’s look by taking her hair down for some vintage inspired waves and by popping on a bold lip & adding in some depth to create a soft smokey eye.

The team that made this day come together was absolutely incredible and they truly continue to inspire us. Huge thank you to each and everyone of them, and also to the beautiful couple who allowed us to be a part of their special day. We hope you enjoy a peek at the wonderful moments captured!
